SUE FIRMIN
My paintings are inspired by the natural world, often found whilst walking my dog through the local fields and lanes! It might be the light shining through pale new spring greens, or the shapes of fields, shorn of summer growth, left dark and dormant for the winter.
The paintings are not from a single view point, but an amalgam of marks, colours and excitement from these experiences. I usually mix many mediums; inks, paint, pastels, pencils, and collage, often using them randomly trying to express memories made on our walks. The paintings always start from unplanned textures and colours, before I try to bring some order back into them!
Being a member of Abstract Edge is very important to me. Having input from other artists working on the edges of abstraction is very exciting. Seeing their paintings, and discussing ideas also stimulates my creativity.
